How can I pay for an employment law claim?

Paying for an employment law claim is not quite as simple as going to the sweet shop and buying a Mars Bar. But we try to make it as easy as pie.

If you think you have a justifiable claim against your employer, please don’t be put off by the expense. We only act for employees, completely understand your concerns about the potential cost of legal action, and offer lots of options to help take your worries away.

Here are some of the payment options you can choose:

Existing insurance policy

Check your existing policies that cover your home, contents, and motor insurance. If they include legal expenses, we will speak directly to your insurer on your behalf, to confirm whether their policy covers your legal costs.

Usually, these insurers will not provide cover unless you have completed your employer’s internal grievance procedure. If required, we are happy to help you with that.

Sometimes, your insurer may tell you that you must instruct a solicitor of their choice. However, you are legally entitled to choose your own solicitor (you’ll find our contact details below, hint, hint!).

No win, no fee

If you don’t have legal expenses insurance, we may be able to act for you on a ‘no win, no fee’ basis. If you win your case, you will have to pay our fees. If you lose, you won’t have to pay a penny.

Fixed fee

You never know exactly how long your case will take, so you may prefer to avoid the uncertainty of paying by the hour.

In this case, you can pay a fixed fee for certain standard packages including:

  • Initial advice and assistance with a grievance and/or disciplinary procedure
  • Initial advice and drafting of your claim form
  • Considering your settlement/compromise agreement
  • And more…

All our standard packages can be customised to suit your situation. Please contact us to ask for details.

Payment by the hour

We charge you by the hour so you only pay for the work we actually do. We record the time carefully and send you regular invoices so you can keep on top of the costs to date.

Mix and match

We can combine any of the options described above to suit you, depending on your budget and requirements.

Tribunal fees insurance policy

You can take out a legal expenses insurance policy through our firm to protect against the cost of Tribunal fees. If you win your case, the premium will be taken out of your compensation. If you lose, you will have to pay a reasonable premium, and the insurance company will cover the tribunal fees, barristers’ fees and the legal costs of the other side.
